I Deleted 10 Years of Blog Posts. Here's Why I’m Cool With That.
Yep. You read that right.
I yeeted (cringe, I hate that word, but it seemed appropriate) over a decade of blog content. Just…poof. Gone.
Okay—not gone gone. It’s still hiding out in the dusty corner of my old Squarespace account, but for now I’m not web savvy enough to get them all transferred over. But here, on this shiny new version of my website? It’s a clean slate. And honestly, it feels really freaking good.
Let’s talk about why.
I’ve Been Doing This for 11 Years. Things Change.
This is the first promotional video I made as a business owner. Zero budget. I asked a handful of friends to meet me in a penthouse loft that my friend Colin had for sale, and we spent the day shooting a video about my “new” company. I can’t believe it was 11 years ago!
When I started Puke Rainbows over a decade ago, it was just me, a camera, a LOT of fear, some agency trauma, and a big ol’ belief that storytelling could change the world. I was fresh out of broadcast news, after a stint in the online branding space, and hauling around Emmy awards (six of them, but who’s counting 🙃) . Back then, I was 100% focused on video production—telling real stories about real people doing meaningful work. And yes, I STILL do that, and LOVE doing it.
But, the world of video has changed. A lot.
So have I.
I Co-Founded an AI Startup...Then I Left It.
In December of 2022, a colleague sat me down, explained an idea that he needed help with…and we made it happen. Generative AI video marketing. We helped people generate video content faster, smarter, and without needing a 10-person crew and a production truck. And honestly? I learned a TON.
An early on prototype of our generative ai video marketing platform.
But eventually I realized:
👉 I don’t want to just build tools.
👉 I want to teach people how to use them—ethically, creatively, and in ways that don’t make them feel like robots.
So I stepped away and started teaching everything I know.
Now? I lead AI workshops across the Twin Cities, and help nonprofits and small businesses use AI to save time and tell better stories. Think: less overwhelm, more “holy crap, I can actually do this myself.” That may seem counterintuitive, since the other half of my business IS video production (cue the haters saying, “But, aren’t you taking away your OWN business/customers?”) The answer is…no. Content isn’t a finite thing. People are always going to crave it, want it. Those same people might not have the spoons or time to even ATTEMPT to do it on their own. Or, perhaps they want something high end, with a storytelling touch? That’s my sweet spot, and I do, and always will…love it.
So...Why Start the Blog Over?
Because I’ve changed. The conversations I’m having now are deeper. The old stuff was fine—but this new version? It feels more like me. A lot of the advice I wrote about still holds true, and I’ll keep singing it from the rooftops. Things like storytelling methods, and reminding people that…for Gods’ sake stop starting your video by spending 10 seconds introducing yourself, it’s SO boring.
I’ll be talking more about:
Why people stop watching your video after 7 seconds (and how to fix it)
What it means to tell the truth and check your bias when you're telling a story
How to use AI in a way that doesn’t feel gross or fake
The real reason your founder video isn't hitting (spoiler: it's not the lighting)
And I want to write posts that actually help you. Whether you’re doing video production in Minneapolis, running a mission-driven org, or trying to survive your next presentation without panic-sweating through your shirt.
What’s Next?
More honesty, swearing (I mean, look at the world, right?), tutorials, showing you how to use AI without selling your soul,
And more tips for showing up on video like the pro you already are.
So yeah—I deleted the blog. And I’m rebuilding it with purpose.
I hope you stick around. It’s gonna be weird and fun and probably way too real.
But hey, we’re still puking rainbows! Thanks for sticking around!
